CXC SIGNS MOU WITH COL FOR DISTANCE LEARNING AND TEACHER DEVELOPMENT

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has signed a 4-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to collaborate on distance education and building teaching capacity in the region.

The virtual signing ceremony was held on January 16, 2024. CXC was represented by Deputy CEO Dr. Eduardo Ali, Special Adviser Doris McEachern, and other executives. COL signatories included President/CEO Professor Peter Scott.

In his remarks, Dr. Ali expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting it resonates with CXC’s strategic repositioning and mission to develop Caribbean citizens for global success.

Professor Scott stated that the collaboration will strive to create innovative learning opportunities and empower individuals to re-engage in education and acquire new skills.

The MOU focuses on supporting CXC’s Professional Learning Institute for teacher development, developing a Caribbean micro-credentialing framework, and facilitating access to COL’s open education resources and courses.

CXC and COL will jointly offer professional development courses to build teacher capacity in the region. The partnership enables knowledge sharing and collaboration between the organizations.

By leveraging COL’s expertise in distance education, the agreement aims to increase access and quality of teaching and learning across the Caribbean. Both parties expressed eagerness to begin their shared work empowering students and teachers.
