DEFREITAS THROUGH TO THE 200-M SEMIS AT THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Beyonce Defreitas is through to the semi-finals of the Women’s 200-Meter event after finishing second in round one of heat 6 this morning at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Running out of lane four, Defreitas qualified for the semi-finals after stopping the clock at 23.99 seconds to finish behind Canada’s Natasha McDonald who won the race in 23.45 seconds.

That semi-final will take place tomorrow Friday.

Also competing for the British Virgin Islands in the other events today, were Tynelle Gumbs, Darell Christopher Jr, Sam Talbot, Luca Reich and Joe Chapman.

Gumbs competed in the Women’s Hammer Throw Qualifying Round – Group A but failed to advance after only managing a distance of 46.90 meters.

Christopher Jr and Talbot both competed in the Road Cycling Men’s Individual Time Trial final which saw them finishing 41st and 37th respectively.

Reich and Chapman both competed as partners in squash, in the Men’s Doubles Round of 32. They lost 2-0 to India, after going down 3-11 in game one and 1-11 in game two.

Wednesday’s events

Meanwhile, in yesterday’s events, Rikkoi Brathwaite missed out on the finals of the Men’s 100-Meter event after finishing 4th in his semi-final heat.

He ran a time of 10.31 seconds in a race that saw South Africa’s Akani Simbine winning with 10.07 seconds.

Also competing on the day was Adriano Gumbs who finished 6th in Round 1 of the Men’s 400-Meter event.

His time ran was 48.87 seconds.
