ISLANDERS FC SHAKES UP NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE WITH CRUCIAL VICTORY

In a pivotal match that may have far-reaching consequences for the legitimate National League title contenders, the Islanders FC secured a crucial 2-1 victory last Sunday, potentially putting Sugar Boys FC out of contention.

The latest standings reveal the impact of the weekend’s matches, with VG United maintaining their top position with 28 points from 11 games. Wolues are in second place with 24 points from 10 games, followed closely by the Islanders in third place with 20 points, also from 10 games. Sugar Boys find themselves in fourth place with 16 points from 11 games, facing a daunting climb up the league table.

Playing at the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground, Antonio Rodney opened the scoring for Islanders in the third minute while Deshaun Bassaragh netted the winner after Romaine Henry had equalized for Sugar Boys in the 33rd minute.

Fitzroy Daley, Manager and Coach of the Islanders, expressed his satisfaction with the hard-fought victory, praising his team’s discipline and determination. “Well done to my team,” exclaimed Daley. “It was a hard-fought game, but we came through despite seemingly being on the wrong end of some decisions. We did extremely well to keep our discipline and, for the most part, played the better football,” he added.

Daley highlighted the challenges his team overcame, including breaks in play and an unsuitable playing surface. “These are the moments and things you have to overcome to be successful. We train for them, have a game plan, and stuck to it. We can only improve, and as long as the guys keep working, we will be serious title contenders.”

Playing over at the Greenland Football Field also on Sunday, Wolues FC solidified their position in the title race with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lion Heart FC. Despite facing challenges, including a red card for their goalkeeper, Wolues displayed resilience. Hugo Costa Liziario and Noel Maxwell had Wolues leading 2-0 within the first 30 minutes of play. Despite a red card and an own goal making it 2-1 at halftime, Craig Tulloch’s goal in the 52nd minute secured the crucial three points for Wolues.

In the earlier match, Rebels FC handed Panthers FC a 3-1 defeat to move to 9 points in the standings, 3 points behind the Panthers.

284 Media was on the ground to capture those highlights.

In the lone match on Saturday, Positive FC dominated Old Madrid FC with a convincing 4-0 victory. Ahkeem Codrington scored twice, while Omar Tummings and Daniel Patrick contributed a goal each.

This weekend’s games will feature Islanders up against Old Madrid at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday followed Sugar Boys versus Panthers at 8:00 p.m. Both games will be played at the Greenland Football Field.
