FRANCIS LETTSOME PRIMARY LEADS INTER-PRIMARY CHAMPIONSHIPS AFTER DAY ONE

Excitement filled the air as the 2024 Inter-Primary Schools Athletics Championships kicked off at the A. O. Shirley Recreational Ground in Road Town on Wednesday, with defending champions Francis Lettsome Primary School making their mark on day one.

Day one of the two-day event witnessed a display of talent and determination from young athletes representing approximately 20 schools, including private institutions, in a quest to be crowned the 2024 Inter-Primary Schools Athletics champions.

The proceedings kicked off with a spirited parade of the schools which was followed by an opening ceremony that included the Acting Chief Education Officer Mrs. Orlandette Crabbe and Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Honourable Sharie De Castro.

Following a packed schedule of races and field events on the day, defending champions Francis Lettsome Primary School emerged as frontrunners, seizing the lead in the points standings with a commanding total of 158 points.

That lead was initially held by Enis Adams Primary School up until the lunchtime break, but stiff competition saw them dropping to third with 137 points, with last year’s runner-up, Joyce Samuel Primary School, elevating to second with 142 points. Closely trailing in fourth is the Bregado Flax Educational Centre with 114 points.

With the top four teams separated by a narrow margin, anticipation soars for an exhilarating conclusion on day 2 of competition on Friday, April 5, 2024.

Athletes from participating schools will be gearing up for a showdown of epic proportions as every race and field event promises to be fiercely contested as teams vie for the pivotal championship.
