MALONE OPENS SEASON STRONG AT EAST COAST RELAYS

Virgin Islands long jumper Chantel Malone made an impressive return to competition, leaping 6.26m (20-06.50) to finish fourth at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida on April 26th.

The BVI Olympic Committee recently shared the news in a Facebook post.

It was Malone’s first event since recovering from a knee injury and subsequent surgery two years ago.

The mark bodes well for the British Virgin Islander as she ramps up preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yanis David of France won the long jump competition with a top mark of 6.64m (21-09.50).

Malone is one of the elite athletes supported by the BVI Olympic Committee’s Tahesia Harrigan-Scott Elite Athlete Scholarship (THSEAS) program aimed at assisting local athletes on the road to the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.

The THSEAS fund receives funding from Olympic Solidarity, PanAm Sports, and private sector partners including CTL Home Center, DLT Solutions, Conyers, Capriccio di Mare, National Bank of the Virgin Islands, The Guana Fund, Republic Bank, BDO, Scrub Island Resort and Smiths Gore.
