RANKIN RENEWS CALL TO RETURN POLICE ACT TO HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

Governor John Rankin recently reiterated appeals for legislators to reintroduce the Police Act to the House of Assembly as a tool for strengthening law enforcement capacity in the British Virgin Islands.

“One of the things which I’ve said before…that I do want to see done more immediately is the Police Act brought back to the House of Assembly,” Governor Rankin stated on the recent Government Business At Its Best program.

He justified his staunch advocacy by arguing that modernizing the legal framework is vital for combatting modern crime.

Governor Rankin contends the legislation’s updated mechanisms can bolster crime-fighting capacities to higher, more effective levels in line with current challenges.

The Governor said he continues lobbying elected members to move forward with the Act. His aims are twofold – satisfying public safety demands while empowering officers.
