A blistering century from opening batsman Avishkar Sewkarran propelled the Cavaliers to a comprehensive 88-run victory over Police in the 2024 BVI Cricket Association’s T20 league on Sunday.

Batting first at the Greenland Cricket Ground, the Cavaliers posted a mammoth total of 216 runs all out, setting a daunting target for their opponents.

Player of the match Sewkarran was in sublime form, leading his team with an impressive 125 runs from just 61 deliveries. His innings was studded with 11 sixes and 10 fours, showcasing a masterclass in power hitting and precision. Sewkarran’s explosive batting laid a solid foundation for the Cavaliers, enabling them to post a formidable score despite the efforts of Police bowler Collis Fraser.

Fraser, however, stood out with the ball for Police, claiming remarkable figures of 5 wickets for 24 runs from 3.5 overs. His bowling performance provided crucial breakthroughs and somewhat stemmed the flow of runs, but the damage had already been done by Sewkarran’s spectacular century.

In response, Police struggled to keep up with the required run rate, managing only 128 runs for 9 wickets from their 20 overs. Opener Kevin Joseph top-scored with 29 runs, but the lack of substantial partnerships and aggressive bowling from the Cavaliers hindered their chase. Jeeyan Dianarine was the pick of the bowlers for the Cavs, ending with 3 wickets for 15 runs from his 3 overs, effectively sealing the victory for his team.

Meanwhile, in a thrilling second game of the day, the Vikings edged out the VI Combined Renegades in a nail-biting encounter, securing a 2-wicket victory off the final ball of play. Batting first, the Renegades posted a competitive total of 199 for 6 from their 20 overs. Arthurton Telemaque played a pivotal role with an unbeaten 68 runs, while Bodean Samuel provided solid support with a well-made 45.

Carl Fraser spearheaded the bowling attack for the Vikings, ending with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 18 runs from his 4 overs, helping to restrict the Renegades to under 200. In their chase, the Vikings showcased remarkable resilience, reaching 202 for 8 from their 20 overs. Player of the Match Fraser capped off a stellar all-round performance with an unbeaten top score of 69 runs from just 24 deliveries, guiding his team to a memorable victory in a thrilling finish.
